# Commands and configuration

Use ana to authenticate, configure package sources, and work with Anaconda services. Use conda or pixi to install packages and manage your project environments.

## Usage

To see the commands supported by your installed version, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana --version
ana --help
```

Option

Purpose

`--help`

Show help for ana or a subcommand

`--version`

Show the ana version at the top level

`--verbose`

Increase logging detail; repeat up to five times for error, warning, info, debug, and trace logging

For command-specific help, append `--help`, for example:

```sh theme={null}
ana tool download --help
```

## Command groups

The Anaconda CLI provides these commands:

Command

Purpose

[`ana login`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication), [`ana logout`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication), [`ana whoami`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication)

Authenticate and inspect the current session

[`ana auth`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-auth/commands)

Log in, log out, or retrieve a saved API key

[`ana tool`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/tools)

Install, list, update, and remove tools, or download installers

[`ana feature`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/features)

Configure package sources

[`ana self`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/self-update)

Update ana, list versions, submit feedback, or inspect the user-agent string

[`ana mcp`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/mcp)

Connect AI clients to the Anaconda MCP service

[`ana api fetch`](#make-api-requests)

Make authenticated API requests

`ana org`

Work with Anaconda.org through the companion CLI. Run `ana org --help` to see available subcommands.

[`ana platform`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/features#outerbounds)

Access the Outerbounds integration on macOS or Linux

[`ana channel`](#channel-commands)

Create and remove hosted channels and upload packages

[`ana bootstrap`](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/getting-started#set-up-companion-tools)

Install the companion CLI environment

[`ana config`](#configure-ana)

Display configuration loaded from environment variables

If you installed ana with conda, use conda to update it and its companion packages. That installation does not include the platform or channel command groups.

## Make API requests

Use `ana api fetch` to call Anaconda APIs from your terminal. Log in with `ana login` first.

### Usage

```sh theme={null}
ana api fetch [OPTIONS] [URL]
```

### Arguments

Argument

Description

`URL`

API path or full URL to request. Omit to show help. Use HTTPS for remote services.

An API path uses `anaconda.com` by default, or the domain set in `ANA_DOMAIN`. Use the endpoint and request format documented by the API you're calling.

### Options

Option

Description

`--method`

HTTP method: `GET` (default), `POST`, `PUT`, `PATCH`, or `DELETE`

`--query-args`

Comma-separated query parameters in `key=value` form

`--data`

Raw request body; cannot be combined with `--json`

`--json`

JSON request body; validates the JSON and sets the JSON content type

`--help`

Show command help

The command prints the response and its HTTP status. If you use it in a script, check the status or response: an HTTP error such as `404` does not by itself make the command return a failure exit code.

### Examples

To inspect the authenticated session through the API, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana api fetch /api/auth/sessions/whoami
```

To send query parameters supported by an endpoint, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana api fetch --query-args "<KEY>=<VALUE>" <API_PATH>
```

Comments

Replace \<KEY> with a query parameter supported by that endpoint.\\

Replace \<VALUE> with the parameter value.
Replace \<API\_PATH> with the endpoint's path, starting with `/`.\\

To write the response body to a file while leaving the HTTP status visible in the terminal, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana api fetch /api/auth/sessions/whoami > session.json
```

Session output can contain account information. Store it securely and remove it when it is no longer needed.

## Channel commands

Use channel commands to manage hosted channels and upload packages. Log in before using them. These commands are not available in conda-packaged builds.

Command

Arguments

Options

`ana channel create`

Channel in `org/channel` form

`--private` or `--public` (mutually exclusive), and `--namespace`

`ana channel remove`

Channel in `org/channel` form

`--namespace`

`ana channel upload`

Package file paths

`--channel` to select a channel in `org/channel` form

These commands manage hosted channels and uploads. They do not configure conda's local channel search order; use [Features](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/features.md) for that task.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Removing a channel changes remote data. Confirm the organization and channel before running `ana channel remove`.

## Configure ana

Use environment variables to change settings such as the Anaconda domain, keyring location, or update notifications.

To inspect the loaded configuration, run:

```sh theme={null}
ana config
```

The following variables control common settings:

Variable

Default

Purpose

`ANA_DOMAIN`

`anaconda.com`

Domain used for authentication and relative API paths

`ANA_OPEN_BROWSER`

`true`

Open the browser during login and feedback workflows

`ANA_KEYRING_PATH`

`.anaconda/keyring` under your home directory

Credential file location

`ANA_ENABLE_TELEMETRY`

`true`

Enable usage telemetry

`ANA_PRERELEASES`

`false`

Include prereleases in update checks

`ANA_AUTO_UPDATE_TOOLS`

Per-tool default

Override which installed tools participate in automatic updates

`ANA_UPDATE_CHECK`

`true`

Enable background update notifications

`ANA_UPDATE_CHECK_INTERVAL_HOURS`

`24`

Interval between background update checks

`ANA_UPDATE_NOTIFY_INTERVAL_HOURS`

`24`

Interval between update notifications

Use `true` or `false` for settings that turn a feature on or off, and a number of hours for update intervals. Leave `ANA_AUTO_UPDATE_TOOLS` unset to use each tool's default update behavior.

For example, to disable usage telemetry in the current shell session:

**Windows PowerShell**

```powershell theme={null}
$env:ANA_ENABLE_TELEMETRY = "false"
```

**macOS / Linux**

```sh theme={null}
export ANA_ENABLE_TELEMETRY=false
```

Usage telemetry and error diagnostics are separate. Builds with Sentry diagnostics also accept `ANA_SENTRY_DISABLED=true` to disable error reporting. For login settings, see [Authentication](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/authentication.md); for update settings, see [Self update](https://anaconda.com/docs/cli-reference/anaconda-cli/self-update.md).
